We are very proud!
On Friday 5th October, St Johns school council were presented with our Investing In Children certificate on behalf of the rest of the school. Mr Bennett visited and spoke about what school council had achieved over the last year, including the organisation of Foodbank collections and becoming a drop-off point for the West of the island, special tuck shops to fill our food bank trolley, raising money for the playground equipment and charity fundraising. It was lovely to see last year’s Y6 school council members who had returned specially to receive the award with us as well.
Investing in Children is about promoting the rights of children and young people, giving them a forum where they come together to discuss issues, solve problems and enter into dialogue with adults who can then act. It is about believing that children and young people have the same rights as adults and that they, as young citizens, have the right to participate in decisions which affect them. St Johns school believes that, in investing in our children, we really are investing in the future.
