Investing in Children, Investing in the Future!
A big thank you to the Isle of Man Prison and Probation, Community Service team, who built a dead hedge in the Peter Rabbit Patch over the Easter Holidays using material they had collected when pruning and clearing our woodland area at the front of school, which had become very overgrown over recent years. The woodland area is now accessible for outdoor learning this summer.
A dead hedge is a wonderful habitat that's full of life. They provide hiding places and nesting habitats for all sorts of creatures, as well as food for insects. The dead hedge will also provide shelter from the wind for our plants growing in the raised beds.
As the dead hedge rots, the nutrients are recycled back into the earth below. Creating a dead hedge is an ongoing activity which we will continuously add to each time we prune a tree or cut back hedges.
